Adhesive Magnets Will Never Let You DOwn

I had never seen strips of adhesive magnets until I was working on a craft project. I had some small items that I thought would make really cute refrigerator magnets. I was in a large craft store and asked how I might make this idea work or what sort of glue would I need. The clerk assured me that no glue was needed because they had a line of adhesive magnets. She took me to the area of the store with these items and I was surprised to find them in a number of sizes and shapes, even in large sheets.

Smaller adhesive magnets come in round and square pieces. Some are sold in strips. The ones I bought were in a strip and rolled up like electrical tape. They were easily cut to size with craft scissors and once the adhesive backing was removed stuck securely to the items I wanted to use. That was better than twenty years ago and they are still on my refrigerator.

You can order large sheets or have them custom cut for your project. Most companies I looked at are happy to answer any questions before you purchase and will even send you a sample of the material to be sure it will work for you. If you are ordering a large sheet, just be sure to measure accurately. A friend of mine has an older home with metal kitchen cabinets. She was really looking to make a change, but found that resurfacing the cabinets was pretty costly. They had been painted before, but she wanted something a little different. She attached a laminate to the doors with sheet magnets. It took a weekend, but they looked great and she saved a good bit of money.

These days a lot of us are short of money and we have to be creative in reusing what we already have. Those scratched kitchen appliances can be easily transformed with adhesive magnet materials. I bought a washer and dryer at a scratch and dent sale. Appliance paint covered the small dings, but there was a larger one on the front of the washer. I bought a sheet magnet and some laminate and transformed the washer. Of course, I love a challenge and I cannot resist anything left by the side of the road. There are a lot of you out there who know what I mean. My husband has resigned himself to stopping so I can inspect my potential treasures, but he refuses to get out of the truck unless the item is really heavy. If you see some metal items, just remember you can fix them up with adhesive magnets. An older refrigerator can have a dry erase board attached for messages or blackboard material will give your kids somewhere to draw other than the walls. You’re only limited by your imagination. Think outside the box and you’ll have some unique solutions to create a one of a kind appliance.
